I don't believe it's just the purring. I think it's also knowing we have someone who cares and wants to comfort us and keep us company. That I believe has a lot to do with it. Especially for the elderly who are alone with nothing but a pet. They are a great comfort for them. They bring a lot of love and happiness into the lives of most of us.
