There are so few African-American bishops because of “racism,” Washington Auxiliary Bishop Robert Boxie said in a September 7 interview with Catholic News Service. On 5 September, Vatican representatives attended the Tri Hita Karana Universal Reflection Ceremony at Sunset Mandala, Bali. Part of Bali Harmony Encounter Week 2026, it was organized with Pope Francis-founded Scholas Occurrentes. Present were Msgr. Indunil Kankanamalage, Secretary of the Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue, Rev. Organizers said the evening was “anchored by an interfaith prayer” and included the Bumi Bajra troupe performing with a "Barong" from Ubud Palace, accompanied by “sacred rhythms.” Barong, a lion-like ceremonial figure, represents a supernatural protector in Balinese Hindu tradition and is closely associated with Balinese religious ritual and temple life.

A historic former monastery in Germany is being converted into rental apartments. The Diocese of Osnabrück has sold the Kommende Lage in Rieste, Lower Saxony, because it could no longer afford the renovations needed for the centuries-old building. Kommende Lage is a former monastery complex dating to the 13th century. The buyer, who runs a tree nursery in nearby Bersenbrück, takes ownership January 15 and plans to renovate it for housing. The purchase price was not disclosed. The site’s nearly 800-year-old Catholic pilgrimage tradition will continue: the pilgrimage church and rectory were not sold, and a priest will remain to oversee the pilgrimage.
