Fatima Keeps Rupnik Mosaic
The Marian shrine of Fátima, Portugal, does not plan to remove or cover its massive Rupnik mosaic. Last year, the Fátima shrine issued a statement saying that it would not remove the mosaic.
The Substack.com-Account The Pillar (September 18) contacted the Fátima shrine again after Rupnik’s mosaics at Lourdes were covered and “was told there is no update to the shrine’s stance.”
There is the prospect of a papal visit to Fátima next year.
Rupnik is facing a canonical trial at the Vatican over credible accusations that he sexually, spiritually, and psychologically abused numerous women. His art, with its big black eyes and characteristic asymmetry, mirrors a warped mind.
Bishop Virgílio Antunes, president of the Portuguese bishops’ conference and chairman of the National Council of the Fátima Shrine, acknowledged that “one cannot separate the artwork from the context and the circumstances in which it was created.” BUT: Neither he nor the bishops’ conference “…More

Parenthood is genuinely difficult. Megan describes a household ranging from college-aged children to an infant, with constant cooking, driving, conflict, exhaustion, financial concerns, medical difficulties, and even the loss of children. She doesn't romanticize the practical or emotional costs.

What Twelve Kids Cost Me: Megan on the cost and the reward of raising twelve children

What Twelve Kids Cost Me Megan on the cost and the reward of raising twelve children Note from TBU: What sets Them Before Us apart is our commitment to amplifying the voices of the real victims of family breakdown: the children. We also share hopeful stories about marriage and family to encourage a reset in how we think about hardships and joys. When adults prioritize their desires, children pay the price. When children’s well-being is prioritized, families thrive. This is a guest post from Megan, a mom of 12, highlighting the joys and challenges of having a big family. I have a dozen children. Yes, you read that correctly: twelve. It’s a number that, as a twenty-two-year-old college graduate, I would never have considered or even envisioned. Twenty years later, I still have days where I find it hard to comprehend: six sons, six daughters. As surreal as this reality remains for me, it is even more shocking for most people I meet in daily life. Men and women alike frequently shake their …

Cardinal Pietro Parolin: “Russia should not be isolated.”
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of a conference in Rome on September 16, the Vatican Secretary of State reiterated the Holy See’s case for maintaining direct channels with Moscow as the war in Ukraine continues.
“Russia should not be isolated,” Cardinal Parolin said according to VaticanNews.va. He argued that some form of channel must be maintained “where people can talk to one another”.
Cardinal Parolin admitted that the results of Vatican diplomacy so far have been “rather limited”. Nevertheless, Vatican diplomacy will “continue on our path.”
He also confirmed that Cardinal Matteo Zuppi’s humanitarian mission concerning Ukraine will continue, including returning to Moscow this September.

"Leo XIV is building a homosexual church by personnel"
Democrat Christopher Hale, a liberal "Catholic", draws attention to the pro-homosexual record of Pope Leo XIV’s episcopal appointments. This week, Leo XIV chose Bischof Michael Saporito - known for his outreach to homosexuals - to lead the Diocese of Metuchen. Hale notes that “Leo’s method is personnel.” He then writes: “One diocese at a time, he is choosing the men who decide whether a gay Catholic in Middlesex County finds the church door open.” And: “Pope Leo XIV is building a church where that welcome is policy, and the tool he has chosen is the men he names.” Hale lists the bishops Thomas Hennen, Ramón Bejarano, James Checchio, Michael Saporito, and Germany’s Christian Würtz, while also citing other personnel choices as part of the same broader pattern.

Leo XIV has named another LGBT-inclusive bishop to lead a diocese of 670,000 Catholics. Bishop Michael Saporito, who served under Cardinal Joseph Tobin, led a parish that welcomed gay Catholics and their families. He also participated in private dialogues with LGBT Catholics, saying he “felt enriched by the exchange of personal stories.”

Blanche’s Political Campaigning Breaks an Ethical Norm Going Back to Watergate
nytimes.com/…s/politics/todd-blanche-doj-midterm-…
The attorney general’s campaign politicking for Republicans adds to the degradation of post-Watergate values at the Justice Department.
By Charlie Savage
Reporting from Washington
Sept. 17, 2026 Attorney General Todd Blanche has repeatedly participated in campaign events and spoken in partisan terms about the coming midterm elections since his confirmation last month, despite criticism that he violated a longstanding Justice Department principle of steering clear of electoral politics.
This week he waded again into those waters — twice.
Since August, Mr. Blanche has come under fire for making campaign-tinged public appearances and comments. Last month, at a rally-style event on Long Island, he praised Bruce Blakeman, the Republican candidate for governor of New York. Last week, Mr. Blanche delivered remarks at the Republican Party’s midterm convention.

‘ZERO A.D.’ BRINGS THE BIRTH OF CHRIST TO THE BIG SCREEN THIS CHRISTMAS | SG News
The story of Christ’s birth is coming to the big screen this Christmas in a dramatic new biblical epic. Angel Studios’ Zero A.D.: The Birth of Christ, directed by Sound of Freedom filmmaker Alejandro Monteverde, is scheduled for nationwide theatrical release on December 11, 2026. Rather than portraying the Nativity only as a peaceful scene in Bethlehem, Zero A.D. takes audiences into the dangerous world surrounding the birth of Jesus — a world in which King Herod sees the arrival of a newborn king as a direct threat to his throne. At the heart of the film is Mary, portrayed by Deva Cassel. Her journey is presented as one of extraordinary courage, sacrifice and faith as she protects the Child entrusted to her while darkness gathers around the Holy Family. Jamie Ward stars as Joseph, alongside Sam Worthington, Ben Mendelsohn and Gael García Bernal. But perhaps the film’s most striking casting choice is Jim …More

Anna knelt before the little cupboard with one of the women on each side and the third behind her. She recited another hymn; I think it mentioned the burning bush of Moses. Then I saw the room filled with supernatural light which became more intense as it wove itself round Anna. The women sank to the ground as though stunned. The light round Anna took the exact form of the burning bush of Moses on Horeb, and I could no longer see her.
The whole flame streamed inwards; and then I suddenly saw that Anna received the shining child Mary in her hands, wrapped her in her mantle, pressed her to her heart, and laid her naked on the stool in front of the holy relics, still continuing her prayer. Then …More
