Brazilian Catholic priest Father Márlon Múcio marked his parents’ 54th wedding anniversary with a blessing from his sickbed. Known to many as “the Living Miracle,” the priest shared a video on Instagram honoring his parents, Múcio and Carminha. He noted that they have been together for 60 years, including their years of courtship. Father Márlon lives with Riboflavin Transporter Deficiency (RTD), a rare genetic neurodegenerative disease that affects fewer than 350 people worldwide. He takes more than 300 pills a day and relies on a mechanical ventilator around the clock. Despite frequent hospitalizations and periods in intensive care, he continues to celebrate Mass, write books and lead charitable work in Brazil, including efforts supporting people with rare diseases.

The new Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations, Archbishop Christophe El-Kassis, delivered his first address at the UN on September 17. The Archbishop rejected “every form of intolerance, discrimination, and hate speech”. And: “Any hate speech - directed at either individuals or communities because of their religion, race, nationality, or any other characteristic - goes against the commandment to love one’s neighbor.” He believes, it “poisons public discourse, inflames division, and too often prepares the ground for violence and persecution.” Words that intentionally provoke hatred “cannot claim the protection of liberty.” Leo XIV appointed Monsignor El-Kassis to the United Nations in July.

“Conservative” Auxiliary Bishop Josef Graf of Regensburg, Germany, can envision ordaining married men to the priesthood. Monsignor Graf made this remarks during a holiday in San Genesio, South Tyrol, where he also helped with the grape harvest in a local vineyard. Oddly enough, I can 'envision' waking up and discovering a Church which nurtures vocations by holding to the Faith rather than deviating from it to suit the needs of prelates who should never have been ordained in the first place.
Mature married men have worked out as well in the parishes founded by Anglicans who converted to Catholicism and, of course, historically in the Eastern Churches, so I don't see what people are worrying about. As long as they don't offer ordination to married men under the age of, say, 45 or 50, I think they'd make an excellent and much needed source of new priests.

They shouted that passengers would “go to hell” if they did not believe in Jesus, while one moved around the cabin. They continued despite instructions from the cabin crew to stop. A Seoul court found that their conduct constituted a disturbance under South Korea’s Aviation Security Act.
