The superiors of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X published today another Open Letter to Leo XIV and to the Cardinals. The letter is no call to action nor a negotiating proposal but rather another public reaffirmation of the Fraternity's long-standing position. Attached is a 28-page document (English below) with the Catholic faith. Empty Words: Vatican Denies Indult for Ubiquitous Lay Preaching
The Vatican has rejected – on paper only – a request from the German Bishops' Conference to permit lay people to preach during the Eucharist by means of an "indult."
A June 17 letter, written by Cardinal Arthur Roche, Prefect of the Dicastery for Divine Worship, was published on Dbk.de.
The German bishops' proposal sought permission to allow lay employees, in the usual exceptional circumstances, to deliver a "homiletic reflection" following the Gospel during the Eucharist.
In his reply, Cardinal Roche claims with canon law that the homily is an integral part of the liturgy [only since Pius X] and is reserved to a priest or deacon. He stresses that the reservation of the homily to clergy is not merely a disciplinary norm and does not depend on theological competence or communication skills.

Leo XIV Appoints German Bishop: "If Women’s Ordination Comes, Why Not?"
Today, Leo XIV appointed the rector of the seminary, Rev. Johannes Zehe, 62, as the new auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Hamburg, Germany.
Monsignor Zehe initially studied music in Berlin and worked as a violin teacher and orchestral musician before being ordained a priest in Hamburg in 1999.
Career Within Hamburg’s Establishment
He owes his career to Hamburg’s Archbishop Stefan Heße who appointed him rector of the seminary in 2023 and has now evidently put him forward for appointment as auxiliary bishop.
However, Archbishop Heße of Hamburg is strongly pro-homosexual. Since June 2025, the archdiocese has been embroiled in a major controversy. On March 14, a Saturday, for the first time, a woman led a liturgical celebration in place of the “Sunday” Eucharist in the Cathedral of Bozen/Bolzano, Italy.

This has been going on here in the United States for over 30 years. Deacons were never asked to have these services, only women were permitted to do so.
