Charismatic and Polarizing: Enzo Bianchi Dies at 83

Enzo Bianchi, founder of the Monastic Community of Bose, died at the Molinette Hospital in Turin at the age of 83 after kidney failure led to a metabolic coma.
Bianchi was a monk but never became a priest. A prolific author, he wrote extensively on Scripture, spirituality and contemporary Christianity. He addressed Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox audiences and became a regular interlocutor of secular intellectuals and non-believers.
Bose: From Farmhouse to a Center of Ecumenism
Bianchi was born on March 3, 1943, in Castel Boglione, Piedmont. His mother died when he was eight, and he grew up with his atheist and communist father. After studying accounting and beginning economics studies, he chose a different path.
In 1965, he settled in a farmhouse at Bose, near Magnano in the province of Biella, arriving on December 8, the final day of the Second Vatican Council.
Three years later, others joined him. The community included men and women, Catholics and Protestants. Initially viewed with …Zêde

Anti-Conversion Law: Indian Christians Demand Written Consent Before Prayer Meetings

Some evangelical groups in India’s western state of Maharashtra are asking Christians to sign declarations confirming that they attend prayer meetings voluntarily.
Maharashtra’s Freedom of Religion Law, which targets “forced religious conversions,” took effect on August 28. It prohibits conversions involving force, fraud, coercion, undue influence or inducement.
Christian groups fear its broad provisions could be applied to ordinary religious or charitable activities.
The forms, reported in Mumbai and neighbouring districts, state that Christians attend of their own choice, without pressure, inducement or threats. Some churches also request a photograph and an Aadhaar or PAN identification number.
The declarations are not required by the government. The move follows several disruptions of Christian gatherings. The Indian Express reported nine police cases linked to five incidents between April and July.
Christian leaders say the forms were introduced as protection against allegations …Zêde

This is a painting by the Spanish painter Sergi Cadenas. It ages from the angle you look at it. Cardenas uses ridges on the canvas ans paints two different images on each side. It merges or changes based on the angles. Amazingly, Cardenas is a self-taught artist.

France Requires Life Insurers to Cover Assisted Deaths: France’s new assisted-dying law requires life insurers to pay benefits when a policyholder dies through euthanasia. This applies even when the policy normally excludes suicide during its first year. It also applies to contracts signed before the law took effect. After repeated Senate opposition, the National Assembly approved the euthanasia law on July 15. The Constitutional Council upheld the contested provisions on August 14. The law was promulgated on August 18.

Catholic baptisms in Ireland fall 30% in a decade: According to an Iona Institute report published on 18 August, Catholic baptisms in Ireland fell by 30% between 2015 and 2025. The study is based on figures from almost every diocese on the island. Falling birth rates account for around 60% of the decline, with growing secularisation accounting for the rest. The number of births fell by 18.8% across Ireland, including by 17.9% in the Republic and by 21.3% in Northern Ireland. Dublin recorded a 39.9% decrease in baptisms, falling from 15,759 to 9,465.

Why Catholic Baptisms in Ireland Have Fallen by About 30% in a Decade

The number of Catholic baptisms taking place in Ireland has fallen dramatically over the past decade. In research I have carried out for The Iona Institute, we bring together figures supplied directly by Catholic dioceses, official birth statistics from the Central Statistics Office and the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency, Census data on religious identification, and longer-term figures derived from the Vatican’s Statistical Yearbook of the Church. The central result is clear: Catholic baptisms have fallen by approximately 30% in ten years. In the 23 dioceses for which we have comparable figures for both 2015 and 2025, baptisms declined from 60,110 to 42,260. That is a fall of 17,850 baptisms, or 29.7%. The decline is unquestionably connected to the falling number of births. But births alone do not tell the whole story. Religious identification has also changed, particularly in the Republic and especially among the youngest children. The balance between these factors …

Stop the Massacres” - Nigerian Bishops

On August 27, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria called on the government and security agencies to step up efforts to combat killings and kidnappings following recent attacks in Benue and Niger states.
In a statement titled “Stop the Slaughter in Borgu and Ukum, Stop the Killings in Nigeria,” the bishops said the country was experiencing an “unabated trail of blood and terror” that had reached an “intolerable crest.”
The statement was signed by CBCN President Archbishop Matthew Man-Oso Ndagoso of Kaduna.
The bishops cited the recent killing of 47 people in Ukum, Benue State, where another 17 people were critically wounded. They also condemned the abduction of more than 60 Muslim worshippers in Borgu, Niger State.
They called for intelligence-led security operations. The aim is disrupting armed groups before they can carry out attacks. They also demanded the prosecution of the perpetrators and their sponsors, saying that “impunity fuels repetition.”
Furthermore, the bishops …Zêde

🌈 Cardinal: Traditional Mass Must Yield to Church Unity

“I do deeply sympathise with people whose love of the Tridentine Mass has led them into tension with the hierarchy,” pro-homosexual Cardinal Timothy Radcliffe claimed talking to AdVaticanum.com on August 31.
He called some of them his friends and "hates to see them pained."
However: “But it is good always to remember that the Eucharist is the sacrament of our unity in Christ.”
Cardinal Radcliffe believes that “the sacrament can never become a sign of disunity” with the Church.
His conclusion: “However painful it might be, if the Church declares that a rite is not to be used, however much one might love it, it cannot be good to let its celebration be a source of division.”
Cardinal Radcliffe recommends celebrating the Novus Ordo in Latin “with great dignity and solemnity.”

CCTV footage shows Noreen running into the burning nursery at PIMS and coming out just eight seconds later with a newborn in her arms. The baby was the only newborn to survive. Tragically, 14 others died. Noreen wanted to go back for the other babies, but the flames and thick smoke made it impossible. “I can’t sleep. Those babies keep me awake,” she later said.

Austrian Bishop Bans FSSPX Rosary at Mariazell Basilica

Bishop Wilhelm Krautwaschl of Graz-Seckau, Austria, has prohibited the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X (FSSPX) from holding its annual public Rosary prayer on October 4 inside the Basilica of Mariazell. It is one of the most important Marian shrines in Austria.
The annual ceremony in the basilica included Rosary, Litany of Loreto, Marian hymns and a blessing - but no sacraments.
Fsspx.at announced the decision on August 27, adding that a pilgrimage will take place with a modified program.
The FSSPX’s rosary prayer in Mariazell has existed for half a century. On September 8, 1975, Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre led approximately 600 faithful to the Austrian shrine.

‘The Perpetual Virginity of Mary’ by Saint Jerome – Proposition 1st. ‘That Joseph was only putatively, not really, the husband of Mary’ – point 16

[Saint Jerome – IV-V Century AD; born: Stridon, Roman Empire/died: Bethlehem, Palaestina Prima; Translation of the Bible into Latin – Vulgate; Doctor of the Church]
16. Now here we have the explanation of what I am endeavouring to show, how it is that the sons of Mary, the sister of our Lord's mother, who though not formerly believers afterwards did believe, can be called brethren of the Lord. Possibly the case might be that one of the brethren believed immediately while the others did not believe until long after, and that one Mary was the mother of James and Joses, namely, Mary of Clopas, who is the same as the wife of Alphæus, the other, the mother of James the Less. In any case, if she (the latter) had been the Lord's mother S. John would have allowed her the title, as everywhere else, and would not by calling her the mother of other sons have given a wrong impression. But at this stage I do not wish to argue for or against the supposition that Mary the wife of Clopas and Mary the …Zêde

"Here is an example of the rule already referred to, by which a nephew is called a brother. And again, Genesis 29:15 Laban said unto Jacob. Because you are my brother, should you therefore serve me for nought? Tell me what shall your wages be. And so, when, at the end of twenty years, without the knowledge of his father-in-law and accompanied by his wives and sons he was returning to his country, on Laban overtaking him in the mountain of Gilead and failing to find the idols which Rachel hid among the baggage, Jacob answered and said to Laban, Genesis 31:36-37 What is my trespass? What is my sin, that you have so hotly pursued after me? Whereas you have felt all about my stuff, what have you found of all your household stuff? Set it here before my brethren and your brethren, that they may judge between us two. Tell me who are those brothers of Jacob and Laban who were present there? Esau, Jacob's brother, was certainly not there, and Laban, the son of Bethuel, had no brothers although …Zêde
