Inventor of the 'suicide pod' says AI should decide who can end life

The inventor of the controversial Sarco suicide pod says AI software could one day replace psychiatrists in assessing mental capacity for those seeking assisted dying.
Philip Nitschke has spent more than three decades arguing that the right to die should belong to people, not doctors.
Now, the Australian euthanasia campaigner behind the controversial Sarco pod - a 3D-printed capsule designed to allow a person to end their own life using nitrogen gas - says he believes
artificial intelligence should replace psychiatrists in deciding who has the "mental capacity" to end their life.
"We don’t think doctors should be running around giving you permission or not to die," Nitschke told Euronews Next. "It should be your decision if you’re of sound mind."
The proposal has reignited debate about assisted dying and whether AI should ever be trusted with decisions as significant as life and death.

The idea of creating a refreshment point on the terrace of the number one basilica, practically above the tomb of the Apostle Peter, is hard to digest: several prelates, when asked about it yesterday morning, did not hide their discomfort or wrinkled their noses. The project approved in its time by Francis (and certainly also by Leo XIV) has begun to spark discussion in the curia, and once again, two distant approaches clash: on one side, those innovative cardinals and bishops who are generally in favor of a more modern and less rigid basilica, a sort of St. Peter's 2.0, capable of opening without prejudice to mass tourism, not only to generate revenue but to give the idea of a home with doors open to all. However, this reformed version cannot reconcile with the rigor of the more traditional curial side, which for some time has aimed for maximum respect for this very special place of worship, considering it was built right on the tomb of the apostle favored by Christ. Pope Leo praises Vatican document that rejected Our Lady's 'Co-Redemptrix,' 'Mediatrix' titles - LifeSite

Thu Jan 29, 2026 - 5:12 pm ESTThu Jan 29, 2026 - 9:30 pm EST
VATICAN CITY (
LifeSiteNews) — Pope Leo XIV, during an address that concluded the plenary session of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith (DDF) on Thursday, commended the dicastery’s November doctrinal note that rejected the Blessed Mother’s titles of “Co-Redemptrix” and “Mediatrix of all Graces.”
During Leo’s January 29 remarks thanking the DDF for its work on several doctrinal documents over the past few years, the pontiff briefly lauded its work on the November 2025 note Mater Populi Fidelis (“Mother of the Faithful People of God”), which notably declared the Marian title “Co-Redemptrix” to be both inappropriate and theologically “unhelpful.” The document also discouraged the use of Our Lady’s title of “Mediatrix of all Graces.”
Since its publication, the document has received considerable backlash from numerous Catholic bishops, priests, and Mariologists who have reaffirmed Our Lady’s ancient titles.

2nd book of Samuel 7,18-19.24-29.
After Nathan had spoken to King David, the king went in and sat before the LORD and said, “Who am I, Lord GOD, and who are the members of my house, that you have brought me to this point?
Yet even this you see as too little, Lord GOD; you have also spoken of the house of your servant for a long time to come: this too you have shown to man, Lord GOD!
You have established for yourself your people Israel as yours forever, and you, LORD, have become their God.
And now, LORD God, confirm for all time the prophecy you have made concerning your servant and his house, and do as you have promised.
Your name will be forever great, when men say, 'The LORD of hosts is God of Israel,' and the house of your servant David stands firm before you.
It is you, LORD of hosts, God of Israel, who said in a revelation to your servant, 'I will build a house for you.' Therefore your servant now finds the courage to make this prayer to you.
And now, Lord GOD, you are God and …

2 Samuel 11:1-4a, 5-10a, 13-17
Sometimes, people like David are ingenious at getting rid of those who get in their way.
By discovering God’s love in people instead, bad intentions would occur less often.
Mark 4:26-34
“This is how it is with the kingdom of God; it is as if a man were to scatter seed on the land and would sleep and rise night and day and the seed would sprout and grow, he knows not how.”
The human being who welcomes God into their heart (their soil) is made fruitful by Love every second.

Archbishop Coakley Calls U.S. Catholics to Join ‘Holy Hour for Peace' | SG News
Amid rising violence, injustice, and social unrest in the United States, Archbishop Paul S. Coakley of Oklahoma City, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), has called on bishops and priests nationwide to offer a Holy Hour for Peace. In a January 28 statement, Archbishop Coakley said many people feel powerless in the face of violence and polarization. He cited recent deaths linked to immigration enforcement in Minneapolis and Texas as tragic examples of a failure to respect the dignity of human life. Emphasizing that the current climate of fear does not reflect the Gospel of Christ, the archbishop urged clergy and faithful alike to pray for justice, reconciliation, and healing in communities across the nation. His call comes amid growing concern from Catholic bishops over domestic unrest, following the USCCB’s condemnation of indiscriminate mass deportations during their November 2025…More

Archbishop Coakley Calls for Holy Hour as a …
WASHINGTON – “Your faith matters. Your prayers matter. Your acts of love and works of justice matter,” said Archbishop Paul S. Coakley, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. “The current climate of fear and polarization, which thrives when human dignity is disregarded, does not meet the standard set by Christ in the Gospel,” he continued, and as a step toward healing, invited bishops and priests across the United States to offer a Holy Hour for Peace.
Archbishop Coakley’s full reflection and invitation follow:
Many people today feel powerless in the face of violence, injustice, and social unrest. To those who feel this way, I wish to say clearly: your faithfulness matters. Your prayers matter. Your acts of love and works of justice matter.
I am deeply grateful for the countless ways Catholics and all people of good will continue to serve one another and work for peace and justice. Whether feeding the hungry, welcoming …More

Cardinal Blaise Cupich has again criticized the Traditional Mass, while in his own Archdiocese of Chicago he allows serious liturgical abuses and offenses against the Blessed Sacrament.
In this video, Fr. Michael Pfleger of St. Sabina parish is shown during a Mass marked by repeated abuses. During the Sign of Peace, a layperson’s exuberant greeting causes a container holding many consecrated Hosts to be knocked over, and the incident is handled casually, as if they were ordinary crackers.
The bishops who persecute the Traditional Mass in the name of “obedience” to the Pope often tolerate grave liturgical abuses in their dioceses without correction. It gives pause for thought.

Nicaragua Prohibits Priests from House-to-House Missionary Work

The Nicaraguan government under the communist dictators Daniel Ortega and his wife, Rosario Murillo, has prohibited Catholic priests from conducting house-to-house missionary visits in the dioceses of León and Chinandega.
State police have confined these pastoral activities to churches and prohibited them from taking place in neighborhoods.
This restriction fits into a broader pattern of repression against the Catholic Church’s public activities, including bans on public religious processions and pilgrimages, prior arrests, expulsions, restrictions on clergy, and interference with church practices that involve public gatherings.
In the opposition media, the president's wife, Rosario Murillo, is referred to as “the witch” because of her esoteric imagery, symbols, and rituals influenced by the New Age movement. Mexican priest Héctor Ramírez has publicly called her “the second most important witch in the world,” without saying who he considers to be the most important.

Tucho Fernández, Head of the Inquisition, Compares the Inquisition to the Holocaust

"Any Blog Condemns" - Tucho Frustrated With Internet

On 27 January 2026, Cardinal Víctor Fernández opened the plenary session of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith.
Tucho placed the legal system of the Inquisition alongside modern atrocities. He said that we must be aware of our limitations and our need for God "so as not to fall into a terrible deception - the same one that led to the excesses of the Inquisition, the world wars, the Holocaust and the massacres in Gaza".
He also used relativistic language, quoting Pope Leo XIV that "no one possesses the whole truth". Tucho added: "We must reflect, think, and analyze reality, but while also listening to others, welcoming their perspectives—which allows us to perceive other aspects of that same reality - and opening ourselves to other points of view."
In line with Pope Francis’s outdated vision, Tucho urged us to pay attention to the "peripheries", "where things are seen differently".
Finally, he criticised online discourse, noting that "on any blog, anyone - even without having …More

Kansas State bursts with conversions - …
As Easter approaches, a remarkably large group at Kansas State University is preparing to enter full communion with the Catholic Church: At least 110 people, mostly students, along with faculty and staff, are completing the campus ministry parish’s Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA).
The figure is nearly triple the parish’s usual number, making Kansas State’s Catholic Center, St. Isidore’s, a striking example of a wider surge in young adult conversions being reported across the country.
By mid-summer of 2025, months before the start of fall classes, St. Isidore’s had already surpassed the previous year’s total number of participants. As signups continued to climb, staff adjusted nearly every aspect of the program, adding an additional weekly class time and expanding one-on-one instruction for those joining later in the year.
“It’s felt a little like trying to control the floodgates,” Ridge Pinkston, the director of OCIA at the …
