James Martin SJ Wants the Church to Ordain [More] Homosexual Priests: Homosexual activist Fr James Martin SJ has called on Pope Leo XIV to remove the – largely unenforced – restrictions against "celibate homosexuals" to become priests. Fr Martin believes that "sexual orientation" alone should not stop a man from being ordained. He points to Pope Francis, who said there are already many "holy, healthy and celibate" homosexual priests. However, in 2005 Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger concluded that men with deep-seated homosexual temptations should not enter the seminary because they lack the emotional maturity needed for lifelong celibacy.

There remain those who claim one can be fully pro-life and authentically Catholic while remaining entirely detached from the political sphere. That position cannot be sustained. The defense of human life from conception is a public responsibility as well as a private conviction. When the law and the culture fail to safeguard the weakest, Catholics are not free to withdraw.
