France Moves to Criminalize Priests Who Keep the Seal of Confession

A bill due for debate in the French National Assembly on June 1 could require Catholic priests to report abuse disclosed during confession.

Article 9 of the proposed legislation would remove exemptions for ministers of religion regarding information obtained "in the exercise of their ministry." The provision directly threatens the seal of confession.

In a statement issued on May 29, the French bishops' conference expressed "great concern," warning that the bill could undermine freedom of conscience, freedom of worship, professional secrecy, and educational freedom. The bishops argue that ministers of religion are being explicitly targeted by the amendment, while other forms of legally protected confidentiality like lawyers remain governed by their existing legal frameworks.

The bishops insist they fully support efforts to combat child abuse. However, they argue that forcing priests to violate the seal of confession would cross a line with significant implications for religious liberty in France.

The bill also contains provisions expanding state powers over private schools, including Catholic institutions.

On the other hand.............
This is exactly what the Catholic Church needs today, because of the lack of action by the upper echelon at the Vatican in dealing with this problem. The last Pope simply condoned these actions, and now this guy wants to continue the Francis Agenda instead of initiating Castration.
So now, when little Francois goes to Confession with Monsignor, and talks about his sinful actions with Father Jean Paul, he now hits two birds with one stone.
A) Father Jean Paul goes on trial
B) Monsignor gets 3 years in jail plus a hefty fine for trying to cover this up.
ALL Because the Papacy kept protecting it's Rump Rangers

Under the proposed French child protection bill debated in the National Assembly, priests who refuse to report abuse disclosed during confession could face up to 3 years in prison and a €45,000 fine. These penalties align with France's standard criminal code for failing to report the mistreatment of a minor.

It started in France (revolution) should you be surprised

Direct Violation: A priest who explicitly links a specific sin to a penitent incurs an automatic (latae sententiae) excommunication. This penalty is reserved to the Apostolic See.
Canon 1388
Canon 983

Ecclesiastical Discipline: While excommunication is a formal penalty more commonly associated with the Roman Catholic Church, Episcopal bishops can try and defrock a priest for violating this sacred trust
Legal Protections: Under this doctrine, Episcopal priests are expected to refuse to reveal these sins even when compelled by a court of law.

The posted sign outside the confessional reads:
In Accordance with French Law, all sins of Child sex abuse shall be confessed with the police, not here.

Trying to spin this against the French Government is Bullhash,
If the Vatican corrected the situation with castration, the Government would not have even considered such a law.
The Vatican is GUILTY in this matter, not the French Government.
Moreover,
JD Vance and Trump need a Law like this in the USA, especially in Chicago.

France’s Catholic bishops have urged lawmakers to reject legislation that would require priests to break the seal of confession, stating that “the secrecy of confession is not a privilege for priests, but a right for the faithful”

While Vatican keeps quiet about it...

They tried that in the State of Washington.
