Vatican says Summorum Pontificum organizers should have requested prayer inside St Peter's basilica instead of procession. The refusal to authorize the annual Summorum Pontificum pilgrimage procession concerned only the procession itself, Matteo Bruni, director of the Holy See Press Office, told the Substack.com-account 'The Pillar' on October 26. The Secretariat of State’s rejection referred “exclusively to the procession, because that’s ordinarily not allowed, not even for dioceses that come in pilgrimage.” Bruni added: “If the organizers wanted to hold an [alternate] activity such as Eucharistic adoration or prayer, they should’ve made a specific request to that end.” However, the Summorum Pontificum pilgrimage had included a procession every October since 2012. Dutch Bishop Rob Mutsaerts has challenged Cardinal Arthur Roche’s position on the original Latin Mass (VitaminExp.blogspot.com, October 24). Cardinal Roche had warned that some Catholic groups use the original liturgy to oppose Vatican II’s reforms and argued that Catholics should not attend exclusively the Mass. The auxiliary bishop of ’s-Hertogenbosch replied that attachment to the Roman liturgy cannot be equated with opposition to Church authority or rejection of Vatican II.
