Tochter des Syfried Ebner und seiner Frau Elisabeth. 1289 trat sie mit zwölf Jahren in das Kloster Engelthal ein, wurde Nonne, später Abtissin. Mit 40 Jahren begann sie, ihre Wahrnehmungen aufzuzeichnen und setzte ihre literarische Tätigkeit mit wechselnder Intensität bis an ihr Lebensende fort. Aufzeichnungen darüber bestehen in verschiedenen Fassungen mit dem Titel "Leben und Offenbarungen" über die Gnadenerlebnisse verstorbener Mitschwestern verfaßte sie das sog. Christina war eine am Karfreitag geborene Tochter einer der ältesten und einflussreichsten Patrizierfamilien in Nürnberg, die am Platz an der Egidienkirche wohnte. Im Alter von 12 Jahren trat sie ins Kloster Engelthal der Dominikanerinnen ein, war wohl 1345 auch kurz Priorin. Im Kloster erlebte die streng asketisch Lebende zahlreiche Visionen, deren Inhalt sie und ihr Beichtvater, der Dominikaner Konrad von Füssen, ab 1317 schriftlich niederlegten; sie wurde damit eine der ersten Autorinnen deutscher Sprache. Ihr buchlein von der genaden uberlast berichtet von ihren Schauungen über die das mystische Leben verstorbener Nonnen ihres Klosters, von freudvollen Begnadungen, von Erscheinungen Christi und der Maria sowie Verstorbener oder von den Gesprächen zwischen Gott Vater, Christus und dem Heiligen Geist über theologische Fragen. At the age of thirty-six, he settled in Spain, where he then rose like the dazzling sun of the Spanish Golden Age. The painting that adorns the cover of this issue of Magnificat shows what a special kind of genius El Greco was. In it we can see the exaltation the painter obtained by giving his subjects the undulating form of a fiery flame, while noticeably lengthening the natural proportions. In this exaltation, the secrets of El Greco’s art hold in three words: life, light, and color. Life. El Greco treated his drawing like the rough draft of a sketch. But he would repeat it several times by juxtaposing similar motifs that were almost invisibly staggered. Erzählen möchte ich von einer Erfahrung, die wir (zwei befreundete Familien aus Kevelaer) vor einiger Zeit machen durften. Jahr für Jahr stand ich immer recht ratlos da, wenn meine Kinder mich fragten, ob sie zu Halloween gruselig verkleidet von Haus zu Haus ziehen dürften, um dort mit der Androhung von Streichen Süßigkeiten zu erbetteln. „Mama, bitte! Die anderen dürfen das doch auch!“ – war ihr Argument. Ich konnte meinen Kindern außer einem unguten Gefühl und der Ahnung, dass diese „Gruselbettel-Tour“ auf einen heidnischen Totenkult zurückgeht, nicht wirklich vermitteln, warum ich ihnen diesen angeblich harmlosen Spaß verderben wollte.
