I thought Catholic teaching says we will be pardoned if we ask Jesus to forgive us our sins. Why would we need the Sacrament of Confession if Jesus would give forgiveness without contrition?
General Audience of 20 August 2025 - Cycle of …
Francis taught that even if a sinner does not repent, the priest must always absolve him of his sins. Of course, such a sacrament is invalid, and sins will not be absolved even if the priest says a hundred times that he absolves. Without repentance there is no absolution. Leo is simply continuing Francis' line, using modernist equivocal language.
That's right, this is why this is incredibly important. Bergoglio and Prevost “teaching” is that sin doesn't matter which is diabolical archheresy that takes souls to Hell!
This is stupid. Jesus’ offer of forgiveness was established as a sacrament. It’s called the sacrament of penance. The church has always taught there are 5 requirements for a sacramental confession: examination of conscience, sorrow for sins, resolution not to sin again, confess your sins to a priest, do the penance the priest gives you.
This is modernist mumbo jumbo leading souls to conclude they don’t need confession because Jesus just forgives anyway.
