Because iconography is a discipline of reproducing the same image for the purpose of teaching it is paramount to grasp the idea that there is variation in repetition. The message stays the same because of a general format and consensus of elements. An example of what I mean, can be seen here in these five renditions of the classic Mary of Tenderness icon. Two important characteristics are key to the message: the face of Jesus touching the face of Mary in their loving embrace and Mary's two hands. With one hand she holds her son, her creation as he was born of her. In contrast, with her other hand, she is presenting her son to us, as the divine child.
Having said this, any of the icons in my collection can be found by title in a variety of forms and styles, depending on the country of origin, the iconographer and the era it was painted. Gallery: Contemporary Icons - San Miguel Icons-Icon painting workshops

Social and Environmental, Planet Earth and Humanity
No one wants a hotter, more polluted and less bio-diverse planet, though most people want the modern lifestyles made possible by cheap energy, abundant food and industrial productivity. There is no global agreements to limit the waste and destruction caused so eight billion people can have lifestyles of abundance. It took billions of years for us to get to today. The harm we’re currently causing to the planet will eventually make it so none of us can live well.

Mary Jane Miller's collections of modern Icons are visual meditations whose root is in traditional Icon Painting. Today, women iconographers around the world continue to create gorgeous work to preserve sacred art and iconography. Byzantine style modern icons are both a religious art form and meditation to develop the art of living well. As a modern Byzantine icon painter, I join my voice to other modern iconographers who speak for women icon artists including those who were unheard in the days of the early church.
The books on iconography authored by Mary Jane Miller are filled with spiritual imagery that offers contemporary ideas with an old-world feel for religious art and the divine. The images are fantastic meditations, ancient stories, they speak of bold spirituality, while at the same time offer a reminiscence, accurate and valuable visual history

Hunger for Wholeness.
We are making one another disappear through our electronic devices which drive the illusion that we are present but not really present. We believe the cyber space in our phone is filling our interior void, yet it is an empty technology that cannot love us in return. Technology fulfills what religion promises, that we will be saved. Our device has become our God, urging us to transcend what we are with no consequences. Actually, it creates a false sense of being loved and our immortality becomes how many times we have posted. In reality, we are making relationship with our self through our device and it separates us more and more from modern life. But this is good, eventually we will become so isolated and we will have to stop and redirect our attention to God and prayer and one another.

PHOTINI, the name of the Woman at the well, she had 5 husbands! imagine what a life that might have been!
The scriptures warn us about the dangers of the foreign woman; constantly cautioning the Israelite's to refrain from joining themselves to foreign women. These relationships could have terrible consequences; leading one to serve the foreign gods these women served. Because of the general warning about foreign women, the story Christ and the Samaritan woman is a twisting of traditions. Though Proverbs 5 sends a clear warning about the foreign woman, Jesus approaches this “foreign woman” without concern. Rather than being led by her away from God, He instead ends up leading her closer to God. READ MORE

Women in the Catholic Church worldwide continue to seek a more meaningful role in the society and the formation of spiritual life. Despite evidence to indicate that Jesus strongly promoted the dignity and equality of women and that early Christians gave leadership roles to women, the influence of prevailing cultural norms has historically caused the role of Women in the Church to be diminished. Today when cultural bias against women has been overcome in part, christian societies around the world maintain a male dominated culture which often excludes women from preaching, teaching, ordination, and decision making within the church.

Good morning,
There has been an increased interest in icon painting around the world. We encourage all faiths and denominations to participate in the second year called Windows to Stillness.
We are promoting a workshop being hosted by St Peter's Church, Lewes, Delaware, November 7th to 11th 2022.
This 5 day workshop introduces the practice and theory of traditional icon painting/writing, conceived as a meditation as well as a painting class. Mary Jane Miller has 20 years of experience as a master iconographer and teacher of ancient iconography using the medium of egg tempera.
The activity of painting an image potentially reveals our thoughts about God and ourselves in the world. The main goal of the study is to cultivate a clear and conscious image that becomes a lasting window to the divine. No artistic experience is necessary for the workshop.
Iconography offers an encouraging new dimension through study and a new experience of faith. Peace be with you, Mary Jane Miller

The Floating Donkey – What Does It Mean for Icon Painters?
Why is the donkey floating and why are their cloaks on the ground? Is it surrealism? No, it is not. It turns out that these features have spiritual significance. These are features with meaning. These are the types of features that make icon painting so special. And we can appreciate these aspects in paintings of the procession in Jerusalem.

Mary Jane Miller's books are beautiful chronicles in iconography. IN LIGHT of WOMEN, adds to this venue serving primarily a Christian audience by broadening an already lively discussion about the spiritual context we live in, and the important subject of women’s voices being fully recognized and valued in today’s society. The text and imagery format is ideal for group discussions about women in the bible. Women's groups will especially find that focusing on one icon at a time makes for exciting debate. My fascination with narrative icons is particularly strong because of the beauty they radiate and how they teach our community using only visual language. For almost three decades, the icons have slowly spoken and quietly revealed their mysteries. I feel confident my book will stimulate discussions and revelations about Christian art and theology. Even if you do not already appreciate religious imagery, the fascinating tradition inherent in icons, the work will speak to you and draw you …More
