She arrives overwhelmed with gratitude for curing her friend and recognizes all things are possible.
The title, All Things are Possible, comes from a passage in Mark 7:27, where Jesus references how a camel cannot fit through the eye of a needle. Luke’s 11th chapter describes how Jesus casts out a demon from a mute person.
Jesus steps forward, committed to free what is bound up or corrupted through wrongdoing. The tension between the calm detached disciples and the one agonizing on the floor who requires healing is noteworthy. In this icon, the black bird emerging from the person’s mouth is symbolic of the demon. The contorted body is troubling; the agony is familiar to those who feel possessed, out of control or unable to speak. One of the disciples reaches forward, touching Jesus on the arm as if calling him back and away from this strange encounter. The disciples stand, in amazement, as witnesses.
Another woman approaches with covered hands, seeing this as a sacred moment. Her covered …More

Where A Sacred Art Becomes Meditation
Byzantine-style iconography has the potential to reflect humankind’s continual joy and beauty found in the search for spiritual fulfillment through sacred art. Mary Jane Miller lives in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and has been doing Sacred Art Painting, for three decades. As a woman iconographer, she creates images to promote spiritual well-being and contemplate that which sustains us. “I have come to see the world as a metaphor, everything which happens to us is screaming to be understood through the eye of the spirit. We simply need to reflect long enough to hear the message”. INFO

Visual Icon Prayer – Christ is the Word made Flesh
Christianity professes God designed Christ for humankind to call us back to the beginning, to live in the glory for why we were created. Christ is a new man and a transcendental manifestation made for us. In this icon writing, the icon artist shows us his divine face imprinted on a cloth. If you really think about it, the concept of viewing a spiritual face looking back at you from a cloth is strange and supernatural. Iconography and Meditation is an introduction to Icon Painting and its Secret Techniques revealed through the practice. The 12-step sequence is a simplified road map for proceeding from vision to creation. Every step is accompanied by suggested meditations to focus the mind with more awareness of who we are as we are painting. However, while easy-to-follow detailed instructions about technique and materials are provided, my main objective is to emphasize the mystical experience of the process itself.
For three decades I have experimented with different forms of prayer. Saints and theologians inspired my first experiences of meditation, sitting for long periods of time in silence. I found a new way to commune with the Spirit, Painting with Mother Earth using egg tempera. If you can grasp the inter-relationship of flesh and spirit in any one aspect of your life, then it is possible to see it run like an electrical current through all of life.

Mary of Seven Sorrows
"Mary of Sorrow is the softener of evil hearts, she tilts her head lovingly towards our planet Earth with a Divine Message. Seven swords pierce her heart; indicating the fullness and boundless sorrow, pain, and “sickness of heart” that would have been experienced by Mary the Mother of Jesus at His crucifixion. The seven swords represent the union of flesh and spirit; Earth's four cardinal points and the holy trinity. Three swords enter her heart on the left, right, and one from underneath. Mary of Sorrows icons are associated with the prophetic prayer of St. Simeon, “ Yea, ...And a sword will pierce Your Soul too, that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed .” (Luke 2, 34-35). She stands with her hands clasped in prayer with a Divine Message for humanity. We are capable of turning away from our hard-headed attitude towards climate change happening all around the globe."

"He came to a Samaritan city called Sychar, and Jesus, tired from his journey, is sitting by the well at the sixth hour, noon, when the sun is the highest in the sky. A Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, ‘Give me a drink’.” John 4:5-7. St Photini speaking with Jesus at the well is one of the oldest images of Christian storytelling found in the catacombs. These words begin the longest conversation Jesus has with another person in any of the gospels. He knows this woman is not just any woman, she is a “heretic”. The early Israelites warned men to refrain from relationships with foreign women. The relationship would lead to “prostituting oneself.” Samaritans were descendants of the northern tribes of Israel who had mingled with foreign pagans, having merged with other religions and local gods. She is one of those “foreign women” who does not expect a Jewish man to talk to her. Jesus appears in the seventh hour and becomes her spiritual husband, her Sabbath, her rest …More

Humanity’s capacity to nurture is unsurpassed. One minute of reflection on our planet today will benefit the generations to come. Humanity has always recited prayers for the sick, those in need, the broken, and the homeless. Our devotions are direct petitions to God for humankind. From generation to generation, we have prayed for brother and sister, wives and children, parents, and neighbors, but left God to care for the environment. The Joyful Mysteries, Sorrowful Mysteries, Luminous Mysteries, and Glorious Mysteries, are all Meditations for Humanity. I have included a section on Visible Mysteries as well. A divine plan is revealed through humanity, but who is taking care of Earth? Rosary Meditations and Care for Creation is a new version of the traditional Rosary prayed by Catholics for centuries. In these 50 pages, we come to appreciate our delicate and imperishable relationship to God and Planet Earth. The Rosary Meditations and Care for Creation is a new version of an ancient …More

"Peter fell to his knees and prayed. He said to her, “Tabitha, arise.” Sitting upright, Peter presented her to her friends alive." Acts 9:36-42. The Latin root of the word, to rise, means to cultivate, grow into, elevate, awaken, or incite. Everyone in the city of Joppa loved Tabitha. She was always doing good, helping the poor, and making garments for others. One day Tabitha grew sick and died. Women washed her body, then placed it in an upstairs room. They sent for the apostle Peter, who was nearby in Lydda. Peter uses the power of Christ within. When Jesus ate and drank with a flesh and bone body, he was not bound by the laws of the physical realm. Jesus is the first example of a spirit man not hindered by any physical existence. We have been promised that when we walk in divine light, we too shall be as he is. Did those who saw them think they were ghosts? Two thousand years ago, people did not understand death in today’s scientific sense. The natural order was accepted as mysterious …More

"Acts 2: 17,18 God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy... Even on my servants, both men, and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy." Pentecost was the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, or Festival of Weeks, a holiday in honor of the first fruits of the harvest. The annual celebration commemorates receiving the laws - the Torah - on Mount Sinai - fifty days after the first day of Passover and the Exodus from Egypt. According to the book of Acts, the disciples are gathered in one place. The disciples hold books while others hold scrolls. In later icons you find four disciples holding books and crosses on their stoles representing how the church hierarchy was forming...In the second version, I have included women. I believe they too were there as witnesses and recipients, receiving the holy spirit and advocating in full measure. All of them present have their feet firmly placed on the earth. "Thomas proclaims, “My Lord and My God!” To look upon the face of Christ is to look upon God incarnate. We learn that the disciples had gathered behind closed doors out of fear of the Jewish authorities. This icon shows the closed door behind Thomas. The red cloth draped over the wall and building is the iconic symbol for a scene taking place inside. Christ appears eight days after his death and can enter the room where His followers have withdrawn in fear, along with a few women present. He is haloed and robed in his traditional red tunic and blue cloak holding a white scroll. The disciples are not haloed. The “Doubting Thomas” had become the “Affirming Thomas” and my awareness had shifted between two poles, one of doubt and the other of belief. Christ has always been present in my life, everywhere and sometimes just beneath a thin garment waiting for me to reach out and touch him. Sacred space, spiritual awe, divine understanding, and mystical awareness, cannot be limited to any one …More

We are called to look into the dome with awe and wonder.
It is a spacey concept the early architects came up with. Light filled windows, in an arching vault that represents a higher dimension. The Magnificent Domes in Churches are sacred space precisely for their ability to make the small mind of humanity want to contemplate. An illuminated vault of color and shape is a simple idea that entices the mind to expand into a world of wonder and awe.
Lately I look up at the magnificent dome in the church over the altar!
Mexico has some magnificent domes, none with the Christ the Pantocrator painted with arms extended. However, all domes give light. They have windows that direct light into a spherical space, reminiscent of our Earth. The space rises us up, grasping our attention to unite with the divine. I can imagine I am being received, invited, heard, and noticed as I sit there in the light that connects me to a higher realm.

In Pope Francis’s words, the Laudato Si’ Movement, “Once you know, you CANNOT Look Away.”
From a recent post on You tube. Pope Francis has sent his encyclical letter to all Catholics, every human, and the Earth herself. I wept as I listened to his compassionate cry for us to adopt responsible behavior for how we act concerning God’s creation.
Pope Francis, took his name from the saint most known for peace and love for creation. His plea for dialogue is unprecedented. We are connected in every imaginable way on this Earth. We cannot go forward till we reflect on how we got here today, regardless of how much sadness that may entail. No plans or doctrines will change or revive the pathetic state of the environment until our hearts and minds are revived with a new spirit of caring and tenderness in everything we do, think, and say.

If you go to the Catholic Church, they will say the Rosary is a traditional Catholic prayer that seeks to honor Mary, our love for her, her love for creation, and us. These new Rosary Meditations focus on our modern world.
Classic rosary prayers have fifteen mysteries that recall the joyful, sorrowful, and glorious moments in the life of Jesus. The reflections in this book highlight and expand the Rosary Meditations. It is the Mary symbolism that I try to portray without actually reciting the prayers to a strand of beads.
For me Rosary Meditations and focusing on our modern world is a natural evolution of the ancient idea of love. All that we feel, all that we wonder, and all that we seek is lifted in a heart filled with love. In this book, you will encounter delightful meditations and ancient stories.
Can we all meditate both in silence, through prayer, and through imagination in such a way that it creates, loving through space in the heart and mind? That is the purpose of these new …More
