Vienna Archbishop Confirms Retirement for Rector of St Stephen's Cathedral

Pro-homosexual Archbishop Josef Grünwidl of Vienna - one of the many questionable appointments by Leo XIV - has confirmed that the controversial rector of St. Stephen's Cathedral, Rev Toni Faber, 64, will retire.

The cathedral will receive new leadership in summer 2027.

Society priest Faber has attended public dance festivals with a woman for years and has questioned celibacy. He has also supported same-sex blessings.

In an interview with Austrian state radio ORF on Saturday, Archbishop Grünwidl claimed that his decision was mainly due to Rector Faber's long tenure.

Archbishop Grünwidl noted that no one in the history of the Cathedral has held the post of rector for 30 years, describing Faber’s tenure as “a record”.

However, the archbishop stressed that this does not mean that Rev. Faber will withdraw completely from pastoral work or leave St. Stephen’s Square.

The Archbishop even praised Rev. Faber’s decades of service and emphasised their close personal relationship. “We were ordained priests on the same day here in St. Stephen’s Cathedral,” he said.
