January 29th - Saint of the Day: Saint Constantius (Costanzo) of Perugia, Bishop & Martyr
Perugia doesn’t celebrate Saint Constantius like a forgotten name in a dusty book. They celebrate him like a warning shot and a love letter to the fearless Catholic life. Saint Constantius (San Costanzo) was an early bishop and martyr who refused to fold when Rome demanded compromise. Tradition says they tried to break him with torture, even boiling water, and he still would not deny Jesus. And here’s the part that hits hard: even in prison, his witness kept converting hearts. Chains did not stop the Gospel. Courage does that. Perugia still honors him every year with the Luminaria and a feast that mixes worship, tradition, and joy because saints are not history. Saints are family. If faith feels pressured into silence, this is the saint to learn from. Loyal, calm, unshakable.
