Si Dieu veut que nous honorions tous les Anges, à plus forte raison est-ce Sa Volonté que nous rendions hommage à celui des Esprits célestes qui leva contre Lucifer et les mauvais Anges l'étendard du combat et de la victoire. Le nom de l'Archange Michel signifie: Qui est comme Dieu? C'est, en effet, le cri d'indignation par lequel il rallia autour de lui les Anges fidèles. On représente saint Michel comme un beau jeune homme, le pied levé sur la tête d'un dragon qu'il transperce de sa lance.
Parmi les faits merveilleux qui nous attestent la protection de saint Michel sur l'Église, il faut mentionner son apparition à Rome, où saint Grégoire le Grand l'aperçut dans les airs, remettant son glaive dans le fourreau pour marquer la cessation de la peste et l'apaisement de la colère de Dieu. Mais le 8 mai est destiné à rappeler une apparition non moins merveilleuse, sur le mont Gargan, dans le royaume de Naples.
En l'an 492, un homme, nommé Gargan, faisait paître dans la campagne ses nombreux troupeaux. Un jour, un taureau s'enfuit dans la montagne, où on le chercha d'abord vainement. On tira une flèche; mais cette flèche revint blesser celui qui l'avait tirée. Devant cette merveille, on crut devoir consulter l'évêque voisin. Le prélat ordonna trois jours de jeûne et de prières. Au bout des trois jours, l'Archange saint Michel apparut à l'évêque; il lui déclara que cette caverne où le taureau s'était retiré était sous sa protection, et que Dieu voulait qu'elle fût consacrée sous son nom et en l'honneur de tous les Anges. Accompagné de son clergé et de son peuple, le pontife se rend à cette caverne, qu'il trouve déjà disposée en forme d'église. On y célèbre les divins mystères, et bientôt, dans ce lieu même, s'élevait un temple magnifique où la Puissance divine a opéré de grands miracles.
De tout temps la sainte Église a eu la plus grande vénération pour le glorieux Archange, elle a favorisé son culte, établi des confréries en son honneur; elle nous le montre présentant à Dieu les âmes des justes trépassés et nous invite à l'invoquer pour obtenir, à l'heure de la mort, le dernier triomphe sur les esprits des ténèbres. Ses apparitions à sainte Jeanne d'Arc sont célèbres. Il est regardé comme l'un des grands protecteurs de l'Église et de la France.

Po dvoch rokoch obsadil Siponto barbar Odoakar. V tejto tiesni sa biskup a veriaci spojili v modlitbe. Biskupovi sa zjavil Archanjel Michael a sľúbil mu víťazstvo. Počas boja sa skutočne zdvihla prudká búrka a piesok zároveň s krúpami zasypal barbarov tak, že sa dali na útek.
Celé mesto spolu s biskupom vystúpilo na horu v ďakovnej procesii. Potom sa znovu zjavil Michael. V jaskyni bol nájdený červený oltár s krištáľovým krížom.
Biskup Laurencius dal pri vstupe do jaskyne postaviť chrám zasvätený svätému Michaelovi, samotná jaskyňa nesie názov "Nebeská bazilika". Okolo vyrástlo mestečko Monte Sant Angelo sul Gargano. Svätá jaskyňa sa stala jednou z najviac navštevovaných pútnických miest kresťanského sveta.

The angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, «Get up and head south on the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza, the desert route.»
So he got up and set out. Now there was an Ethiopian eunuch, a court official of the Candace, that is, the queen of the Ethiopians, in charge of her entire treasury, who had come to Jerusalem to worship,
and was returning home. Seated in his chariot, he was reading the prophet Isaiah.
The Spirit said to Philip, "Go and join up with that chariot."
Philip ran up and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and said, "Do you understand what you are reading?"
He replied, "How can I, unless someone instructs me?" So he invited Philip to get in and sit with him.
This was the scripture passage he was reading: "Like a sheep he was led to the slaughter, and as a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he opened not his mouth.
In (his) humiliation justice was denied him. Who will tell of his posterity? For his life is taken from the earth."
Then the eunuch said to Philip in reply, "I beg you, about whom is the prophet saying this? About himself, or about someone else?"
Then Philip opened his mouth and, beginning with this scripture passage, he proclaimed Jesus to him.
As they traveled along the road they came to some water, and the eunuch said, "Look, there is water. What is to prevent my being baptized?"
Then he ordered the chariot to stop, and Philip and the eunuch both went down into the water, and he baptized him.
When they came out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away, and the eunuch saw him no more, but continued on his way rejoicing.
Philip came to Azotus, and went about proclaiming the good news to all the towns until he reached Caesarea.

El 8 de mayo La Aparición del Arcángel San Miguel (492) Cerca del año 490, un señor de Gargano estaba buscando uno de sus mas preciados toros. Cuando pensaba que estaba definitivamente perdido, lo logró ver dentro de una cueva de rodillas. Como la cueva estaba muy alta, este hombre pensó que jamás el toro lograría salir de allí, y le disparó una flecha para sacarlo de su miseria. Pero la flecha, a medio camino, dio la vuelta, dirigiéndose de nuevo hacia el hombre.
Sorprendido, el hombre fue al obispo a relatar lo que le había sucedido. El obispo instituyó tres días de oración y ayuno afuera de la cueva para discernir si lo ocurrido era o no un incidente del cielo. Mientras oraban fuera de la cueva, San Miguel se le apareció al obispo y le dijo: "Yo soy el Arcángel San Miguel, y estoy siempre ante la presencia de Dios. Esta cueva es sagrada para mi; es de mi elección. No habrá mas derramamiento de sangre de los toros. Donde las rocas se abran de par en par, los pecados de los hombres serán perdonados. Lo que se pida aquí en oración será concedido. Por lo tanto, dediquen la gruta a culto cristiano".
Pero a pesar de esta manifestación el obispo dudaba. Mas tarde el pueblo de Gargano se veía amenazado por una invasión, y el Arcángel se le volvió a aparecer al obispo y le prometió victoria para el pueblo, si confiaban y tenían fe. Así fue. El obispo en gran angustia se veía dividido entre dudas y la petición de San Miguel de construir la Iglesia en la gruta.
Un año mas tarde el obispo fue donde el Papa a pedir dirección. Este le envío junto con sacerdotes a estar tres días de oración y ayuno fuera de la cueva y pedir la asistencia del Arcángel para discernir la voluntad de Dios. San Miguel se le aparece de nuevo y ordenó al obispo entrar a la cueva: "No es necesario que me dediques esta Iglesia, yo mismo la he consagrado con mi presencia. Entra y bajo mi asistencia, ora y celebra el sacrificio de la Misa. Te enseñare como yo mismo he consagrado este lugar"
Al entrar, el obispo se encontró dentro un espléndido altar revestido de mantel rojo y una cruz de cristal. En la entrada había una huella de pie, confirmando la presencia del Arcángel.
San Miguel libera de la plaga
Otro incidente notorio ocurrió en el año 1656: toda el área estaba bajo el ataque de una plaga. Las víctimas eran muchas. El obispo de ese tiempo recurrió a San. Miguel y pidió tres días de oración y ayuno. San Miguel se le aparece en Sept. 25 1656: "Yo soy el Arcángel San. Miguel. Quien use las piedras de esta gruta será liberado de la plaga. Bendice estas piedras, grábales el signo de la cruz y mi nombre." El obispo así lo hizo, e inmediatamente ceso la plaga.
Muchos santos han visitado este lugar (San. Francisco, Beato Padre Pío, San Antonio, San Agustín)
En mayo 24, 1987 SS Juan Pablo II visito esta cueva, rezó la oración compuesta por León XIII y dijo: "he venido a venerar e invocar la protección del Arcángel San Miguel y pedirle que defiende a la Santa Madre Iglesia... La batalla contra el demonio, por lo cual el se distingue, es real aun hoy, ya que el demonio esta vivo todavía y muy activo en el mundo moderno"

La batalla contra el demonio, por lo cual el se distingue, es real aun hoy, ya que el demonio esta vivo todavía y muy activo en el mundo moderno"

Dabei wird ein Bogen gespannt, vom Aufkommen des Michaelskultes im Byzantinischen Reich über die Erscheinungslegende, welche die Entstehung des Erzengelheiligtums auf dem Monte Gargano gegen Ende des 5. Jhd. begründet hat, über die Ostgoten, Langobarden, Franken, Ottonen, Normannen, Staufer, Anjou und der Corona de Aragón, bis hin zu den römisch-deutschen Königen im speziellen, die dorthin gewallfahrtet sind. Aber auch berühmte Heilige und Päpste kommen nicht zu kurz, ebenso die unzähligen Kreuzritter, die ihren Weg zur Michaelsgrotte auf dem Monte Sant’Angelo fanden. Mentalitätsgeschichtlichen Aspekten wird unter Einbeziehung des sog. Perdono Angelico ein neuer Impuls gegeben.

Si Dieu veut que nous honorions tous les Anges, à plus forte raison est-ce Sa Volonté que nous rendions hommage à celui des Esprits célestes qui leva contre Lucifer et les mauvais Anges l'étendard du combat et de la victoire. Le nom de l'Archange Michel signifie: Qui est comme Dieu? C'est, en effet, le cri d'indignation par lequel il rallia autour de lui les Anges fidèles. On représente saint Michel comme un beau jeune homme, le pied levé sur la tête d'un dragon qu'il transperce de sa lance.
Parmi les faits merveilleux qui nous attestent la protection de saint Michel sur l'Église, il faut mentionner son apparition à Rome, où saint Grégoire le Grand l'aperçut dans les airs, remettant son glaive dans le fourreau pour marquer la cessation de la peste et l'apaisement de la colère de Dieu. Mais le 8 mai est destiné à rappeler une apparition non moins merveilleuse, sur le mont Gargan, dans le royaume de Naples.
En l'an 492, un homme, nommé Gargan, faisait paître dans la campagne ses nombreux troupeaux. Un jour, un taureau s'enfuit dans la montagne, où on le chercha d'abord vainement. On tira une flèche; mais cette flèche revint blesser celui qui l'avait tirée. Devant cette merveille, on crut devoir consulter l'évêque voisin. Le prélat ordonna trois jours de jeûne et de prières. Au bout des trois jours, l'Archange saint Michel apparut à l'évêque; il lui déclara que cette caverne où le taureau s'était retiré était sous sa protection, et que Dieu voulait qu'elle fût consacrée sous son nom et en l'honneur de tous les Anges. Accompagné de son clergé et de son peuple, le pontife se rend à cette caverne, qu'il trouve déjà disposée en forme d'église. On y célèbre les divins mystères, et bientôt, dans ce lieu même, s'élevait un temple magnifique où la Puissance divine a opéré de grands miracles.
De tout temps la sainte Église a eu la plus grande vénération pour le glorieux Archange, elle a favorisé son culte, établi des confréries en son honneur; elle nous le montre présentant à Dieu les âmes des justes trépassés et nous invite à l'invoquer pour obtenir, à l'heure de la mort, le dernier triomphe sur les esprits des ténèbres. It is evident from Holy Scripture that God is pleased to make frequent use of the ministry of the heavenly spirits in the dispensations of His providence in this world. The Angels are all pure spirits; by a property of their nature they are immortal, as is every spirit. They have the power of moving or conveying themselves at will from place to place, and such is their activity that it is not easy for us to conceive of it. Among the holy Archangels, Saints Michael, Gabriel and Raphael are particularly distinguished in the Scriptures. Saint Michael, whose name means Who is like unto God?, is the prince of the faithful Angels who opposed Lucifer and his followers in their revolt against God. Since the devil is the sworn enemy of God's holy Church, Saint Michael is given to it by God as its special protector against the demon's assaults and stratagems.
Various apparitions of this powerful Angel have proved the protection of Saint Michael over the Church. We may mention his apparition in Rome, where Saint Gregory the Great saw him in the air sheathing his sword, to signal the cessation of a pestilence and the appeasement of God's wrath. Another apparition to Saint Ausbert, bishop of Avranches in France, led to the construction of Mont-Saint-Michel in the sea, a famous pilgrimage site. May 8th, however, is destined to recall another no less marvelous apparition, occurring near Monte Gargano in the Kingdom of Naples.
In the year 492 a man named Gargan was pasturing his large herds in the countryside. One day a bull fled to the mountain, where at first it could not be found. When its refuge in a cave was discovered, an arrow was shot into the cave, but the arrow returned to wound the one who had sent it. Faced with so mysterious an occurrence, the persons concerned decided to consult the bishop of the region. He ordered three days of fasting and prayers. After three days, the Archangel Saint Michael appeared to the bishop and declared that the cavern where the bull had taken refuge was under his protection, and that God wanted it to be consecrated under his name and in honor of all the Holy Angels.
Accompanied by his clergy and people, the pontiff went to that cavern, which he found already disposed in the form of a church. The divine mysteries were celebrated there, and there arose in this same place a magnificent temple where the divine Power has wrought great miracles. To thank God's adorable goodness for the protection of the holy Archangel, the effect of His merciful Providence, this feast day was instituted by the Church in his honor.
It is said of this special guardian and protector of the Church that, during the final persecution of Antichrist, he will powerfully defend it: At that time shall Michael rise up, the great prince who protects the children of thy people. (Dan. 12:1) Compare this text with Chapter 10 of the Apocalypse of Saint John.
Reflection. Saint Michael is not only the protector of the Church, but of every faithful soul. By humility he defeated the devil; we who are enlisted in the same warfare must adopt his weapons — humility and ardent love of God. Regarding this Archangel as our leader under God, let us courageously resist the devil in all his assaults with our protector's famous exclamation: Who is like unto God?
